The concept of the efficient mediocre level entrepreneur was developed by J. Altzucher, some habits of whom I adopt in the first part of this book. The concept is a powerfull one and rarely expanded – I chose to do it among the first. There is no collaboration with the aforementioned businessman but I grand him the fatherhood of it and feel indebted to him.In his words, “people overestimate themselves. Don’t let overestimation get in the way of becoming fabulously rich, or at least successful enough that you can have your freedom, feed your family, and enjoy other things in life. Being mediocre doesn’t mean you won’t change the world. It means being honest with yourself and the people around you.”In my efficiently mediocre unoriginal spirit (habbit # 5), I adopt the concept a bit.Let’s look at what are the difference between a sufficient mediocre mindset and a normal mediocre mindset.Mediocre Mindset. They have low expectations and standards, and aren’t willing to put in the extra effort to create something really exciting and breathtaking. They don’t invest in themselves and don’t put in the effort to keep their skills up-to-date. They are happy using that technology from years ago. It keeps them ticking over and that’s good enough.Sufficiently mediocremindet.1.Self-honesty about shortcomings and openness to admitting mediocricyWhat if you are a bad judge of people ? It is better to admit it and it raises your chances to being a sufficient mediocre in business – an enviable position that only 10% of people achieve, after all.2.Looking beyond toxic social constructsIt’s ok to fail. It’s ok to admit you are not a good judge of people, that you procrastinate or that you have wrong expectations.Popular mantras about mediocricy and how sufficient mediocricy is differentPopular mantras. Accepting mediocrity as the standard for success will ultimately harm the business. It won’t take much for your competitors to beat you squarely when your goal is “It works”.Sufficient mediocricy. They push boundaries, albeit with a knowledge and respect of their limiting habits, challenge the status quo, think outside the box or put in extra effort to achieve a goal. They pull out a lot but not all the stops and care to meet a deadline. This book is as well about developing awareness at the efficient mediocre business level as it is about changing your thinking, beliefs & expectations about certain areas in your biz so that you grow and get better performance and in turn change you life – being an efficient mediocre entrepreneur is a major station in life. Just think about how many people dream to have their own business and never start or those who started most frequently fail to pass through the survival stage (See section 2).But how can changing these beliefs, behavior & expectations change your chances to run efficiencly at the mediocre business level ?When you change your behavior, you change your performance. Most people would rather live with old problems than new solutions. We would rather be comfortable than correct; we would rather stay in a routine than make changes. Even when we know that the changes are going to be better for us, we often don’t make them because we feel uncomfortable or awkward about making that kind of a change. Until we get courage and get used to living with something that is not comfortable, we cannot get any better.Whn you change your performance, you change your life. It is easier to turn failure into success than an excuse into a possibility. A person can fail, turn around and understand their failure to make it a success. But I want to tell you, a person who makes excuses for everything will never truly succeed
