1. INTRODUCTION TO MANAGEMENTThe process of managing a team involves the interaction of people where individuals contribute to the running or completion of a task. As in any State or country, under any government, people live together under various laws, rules, regulations and religions. The people elect or they follow a leader, be it a democratic or tyrannical leadership. People under such regimes follow a type of management. In a business environment such methods of management prevail. A Manager will delegate and lead one or more individuals within the organization by running the business or a system. As in any government, the President or the Prime Minister will maintain the best possible methods for the running of the country and for improving the standards of living. A similar case prevails in the business world. Keeping your staff happy and motivated is an important part of leadership. Especially where a company is undergoing the technological change demanded by modern computing and the Information Technology systems involved. Think of the upheaval that can accompany the demands of a technological change.Technology of the 21st century is and will be ‘electronic mobility’. This will give us the complementary opportunity of being able to work or play as we choose, at any time and anywhere. The 19th and 20th centuries gave us increasing ’physical mobility’ through the ship, train, car and the aircraft. Those new freedoms transformed business, personal life and a new style of management. As well as facilitating very large scale economic development, which in turn caused further adaptations of the philosophical concepts as perceived through the ages.Such technological advance and power brings responsibility. Not everyone responds well to a change or the challenge. While one person may find change exciting, another may be scared rigid. Politically speaking, what is happening outside the country may also affect how an individual views change in politics. Keeping thoroughly abreast of how citizens are feeling is very important. The same exactly viewpoint will exist in an office. Far more important, however, is ensuring that staff know what is happening.Management styles can, therefore, be considered as political systems where people participate in the smooth running of a country or a company, whether this is a global organization or a fruit stall in the back streets of London. Getting the people to work together, to manage or be managed is vital to the success of a business. Leadership is the key to success, yet not enough effort is being spent on helping to create effective leaders, whether political or business leaders, especially in addressing global issues. Whole libraries have been devoted to analysing what makes a good leader and yet, although Political Philosophy has a lot to contribute to modern ways of managing, those in the forefront are unaware of the benefits that can be obtained from ancient and modern political philosophers. Ignoring the philosophical thinkers of al ages can be detrimental to the contribution to successful business running.Traditional management takes into consideration technology. In modern times, getting Information Technology right is only half the battle. Getting the employees to use it is vital to the success of a business. But to enable the correct and efficient use of such technological marvels, people need to learn the new concepts, to train in implementing and using technology. To do this, people need leaders with comprehension of what is involved. Not only the technological aspects, but also the individuals needs. The psychological factors involved, the sociological demands placed upon staff and what makes people tick.
