Throughout this book we're going to make a case for choosing your personal POWER in order to achieve, attract, experience and become anything you've ever desired for yourself and your life, both at work and outside of work. You have been gifted with an intellect, a mind, a body, a place in the human race. No matter what it isn't, there are a myriad of things it is. And, whether you acknowledge or remember that or not, it's still true. If you're like many - maybe even most - humans, you take those things that were gifted to you free at birth for granted. The ideas in this book are just that: ideas. They are not demands or dogmas or systems or processes or guarantees. They are ideas to get you thinking about things just a little differently. It is a book for leaders: people who are willing to step up and into their own personal power, not to use force from outside themselves to get others to do things. People who inspire those around them to be the best versions of themselves possible. When you are at the cause of this awareness and the consequential shift that happens as a result, you have a huge opportunity. If you only recognize the effects, you will be forced to wait for instruction or permission to take action, and then it will be as a result of someone else's direction instead of you own.Tools are resources. They are utilized to assist in accomplishing a task. When you know what you desire, utilizing a power tool gets you there much more efficiently and effectively. Tapping into the power available to each of us will allow longer-term relationships to be built. Long-term relationships support the structure as well as infuse the heart and soul and spirit - the intangibles - into the culture of a community, a home, an organization or a corporation. The title of this book, P.O.W.E.R. Tools @ Work, implies that the tools can be utilized at your place of work, but also that they will only be effective when they are put to work. The P.O.W.E.R. acronym breaks the ideas down into five sections: Purpose, Open-mindedness, Wisdom, Energy, and Responsibility. In the area of PURPOSE, you will dig deeper into the WHY of actions, beliefs, behaviors, and even those deep-seated thoughts that limit your possibilities. In the area of OPEN-MINDEDNESS, you will focus on Future Pacing, or acknowledging those old stories that might keep you from creating the future of your dreams.WISDOM allows an exploration into the past, not to dwell there, but to learn from your experiences and your knowledge, and to take the lessons from those memories into your present actions. In the ENERGY section you will work on putting language to the way things feel so you can alter your experience, if necessary, to produce those feelings you desire instead. And in the RESPONSIBILITY section you will realize that whatever action you decide to take will produce a result, and the effects of those actions are up to you.At the end of each section you will find a list of tools: Conversational Tools, which give you an idea of what to say in certain situations, and Experiential Tools, which you can use in a variety of ways either for yourself or members of your team.As you create more fulfilling and engaging workplaces, cultures, and experiences for people, it will be your responsibility as a leader, regardless of your title or your position, to help yourself and eventually others to take new action in order to produce new results. When your routines become stuck, it is more difficult to recognize patterns of possibility as you struggle just to keep your head above water. This is exactly the time you would benefit most from grabbing the life preserver this book can provide. The tools in this book will assist you in infusing any project - at work or at home - with the talent and skills and gifts that give your organization the edge. And that edge begins with you.
